What Moves Me
Years ago, a coach asked, “What would you do if you didn’t have to work for money?” My answer: “I’d travel around the world talking to interesting people about their lives and writing for or about them.”

I feel fortunate to have found a vocation that has put me in conversations with people in a variety of roles — including the highest official of the Presbyterian Church USA, CEOs, software and building engineers, and dog trainers — and to live in a time when I can travel around the world from my living room, if necessary.

I grew up in Westchester County, NY, just across the street from New York City. I followed the Grateful Dead to California, studied at Stanford, and, despite two brief trials of living in Seattle, haven’t managed to find a better place to make a life than the Bay Area.

When I’m not writing, I spend time with my pets, study Tae Kwon Do, and serve as a board member with Project Avary, an agency that promotes brighter futures for Bay Area children with a parent in prison.
